What I love most about this weekend outfit is its stylish blend of ease, mood-brightening metallics and fun. Who could fail to be moved by this fantastic silver pleated midi skirt from H&M? It dazzles even in the shade and swishes about marvellously every time you take a step (if you follow this blog you’ll know I’m obsessed with clothes that billow and swirl – like the graceful and always-appropriate palazzo pant). In truth, pleated midi skirts have never really been my thing, but when I spy an item that quickens my pulse and induces me to cross the shop floor, I know I need to act. I’m also a fan of bold metallics for both day and night. Why save something this glossy and fabulous for evening? Pieces that sparkle and shine should be busted out at every opportunity, in my opinion. No need to go head-to-toe; a single statement metallic will do.
Which brings me to this bold printed bomber jacket (find similar here). With its striking colour and zingy silver zip, it’s the perfect foil to the skirt and a brilliant addition to countless off-duty looks. Add in its lightweight fabric, toggles for cinching in the waist and delicate floral sleeves and it whips up the ranks to bona fide wardrobe staple. I’ve already styled it with black suede pants and heels for a gig and it went down a treat.
Finally, who can resist an of-the-moment logo tee with a cute retro feel and colourful print for weekend wear? If I was a tad slow in leaping aboard the logo tee bandwagon, I’m mighty glad I finally did. The bold colours in this number add interest and pair effortlessly with the bomber jacket. T-shirts with a flattering cut and print are an off-duty staple and an item you’ll turn to time and time again. I’m already wondering how I managed to exist without one.
On that note, these metallic silver brogues – which are finally about to cark it – have been such a wardrobe workhorse I’m frankly depressed at the thought of carrying on without them (I’ll be musing on the nostalgia of sending cherished apparel to fashion heaven in an upcoming post). Thankfully they agreed to go for one final spin. And aren’t they fabulous? Ludicrously comfortable and still stylish enough to elevate any number of casual outfits. How I will miss them.
Of course, any off-duty weekend look worth its salt can be zhooshed up for evening with minimal effort. Here, it was simply a matter of ditching the sunnies and slipping on my favourite crimson Valentino heels. A night with the girls awaits.
What’s your favourite off-duty look for the weekend? I’m dying to hear.
